An Astrological Glance for 2007
By Alexandra Karacostas

“The future will be a direct result of our Piscean past. Unless we truly learn the historical
Piscean spiritual teachings, our Aquarian future may look dismal indeed. The primary Piscean
requirement for all people, nations, and cultures is to give consciously of oneself, so that others
may benefit, regardless whether there is agreement about moral or ethical positions. This is
commitment to life. This is, in effect, love.”
Gary Lorentzen, Kepler College
We are still transitioning from the Piscean age to the Aquarian age. Looking at the year ahead, I feel optimistic. This is in part because I believe that “necessity is the mother of invention”. This
coming year’s necessities include new solutions to difficult problems. The challenges we
encounter personally, and collectively on a global scale, can serve as valuable teachers. Its our
choices that count. I choose to live in joy and peace. With that thought I will share with you
some astrological insights for the coming year!

Before we look forward, we must first look back a bit. In the fall of 1989, Saturn and Neptune
were “conjunct” in Capricorn (meaning that from our perspective on earth the two planets
appeared to be next to one another in the sign of Capricorn). Just this past August, Saturn and
Neptune finally came into “opposition” in the signs of Leo and Aquarius (meaning that they
reached opposing positions in the sky). The “seed” planted in 1989 to give shape and form
(Saturn) to your vision, dreams and inspiration (Neptune) has now matured. Looking back over
the past year, what “high water” mark have you reached with regards to seeds planted seventeen years ago? Where are you going with it today?

Take a look at our nation. In 1989 we felt confident, believed we had a clear direction and vision
as to where we were headed. Capricorn‘s energies, where the conjunction occurred, resulted in
conservative themes which grew and strengthened. Now, according to the USA’s most
commonly used astrology chart, the Saturn/Neptune opposition falls in the 2nd/8th house axis.
This alignment asks us to review how we identify, and view our own resources and values. As a
nation we are called to examine how it is we aspire to cooperate, to work jointly, and to share
resources. Today, seventeen years later, we can determine how effectively we have achieved our
goals. Now is the time to take appropriate measures to amend and adjust where necessary.

In late November 2006 Jupiter moved from the sign of Scorpio into Sagittarius, where it will
remain until December 2007. During this coming year we can expect increased activity and
energy spent on promoting and supporting our beliefs, philosophies, and higher educations - the
threads which hold together the fabric and meaning of life. There will remain a heightened
awareness of how our government is intimately involved abroad. Our nation will further
undergo a renaissance in spiritual and moral thinking - the opportunity here is to bring out
Sagittarius’s higher consciousness.

Much of this year Uranus and Jupiter will be “square” in the sky. Impulsive excess is associated
with this aspect. We need to evaluate the causes we pursue to make sure they are sensible and
appropriate. We’ll likely see a further increase in extreme religious views, and tendencies to
over-reach and reform. This will especially apply towards the end of the year, as Jupiter
approaches Pluto in Sagittarius.

Because of the current mutual reception of Uranus in Pisces and Neptune in Aquarius we will be
challenged to break down the forms of our understanding, widen our perspectives, and attempt to include more within our world view. There are some harmonious aspects between the USA’s Cancer Sun and the transit positions of Neptune and Uranus: hidden information will likely be revealed.

In September of 2007 Saturn will move into the sign of Virgo, after spending two and a half
years in Leo. During Saturn’s reign in Leo, our relationship to authority and power is
highlighted. A key word for Saturn in Leo is “autocratic” - a desire to have control of our
environment. Does this sound familiar? This is especially significant for all the baby boomers
born between August 1946 and June 1949 - they’ve now experienced their second Saturn Return.
This is a generation that struggled to discover its identity on its own terms while challenging
authority. This transit of Saturn in Leo again illuminates for all of us that we are our own
authors (authority).

As Saturn moves into Virgo in September 2007 our desire to discriminate and bring greater order to life will come into sharper focus. The goal will be to keep what is efficient and functioning and discard the rest! We should witness major breakthroughs in medicine, health care and research at this time. As a commodity, “service” will once again become valued.

Mars, our defender and warrior, will be in motion, transiting from Sagittarius into Cancer
throughout 2007. After May we will notice a shift in emphasis towards personal values and
concerns, away from social or political ones. There will be a sense of greater urgency in the air
this spring and early summer.

In December of 2007 Jupiter and Pluto become conjunct in the sign of Sagittarius. Pluto is the
agent of transformation. Jupiter expands and embellishes whatever it touches. Together they
push towards resolution, or polarization, of our philosophical and religious differences. We can
choose to continue as “Lone Ranger”. Regardless, we need to watch our impulse towards over
zealousness.

So what about Pluto’s reclassification as a “dwarf” planet? Most of us astrologers pay little mind other than to be amused. We know that dark matter exists, that there is another realm beyond the Kuiper Belt that we had not much considered before. Pluto energy has a way of revealing mysteries and disclosing secrets. Regardless of human reclassification Pluto’s archetypal themes
remain intact.

Pluto will be in its final degrees of Sagittarius where it has been since 1996. During this time we
have witnessed huge transformations, deaths and births of new nations. Correspondingly, there
have been equal degrees of religious restlessness and zealotry. Pluto’s themes include the use of
power, for better or worse. We are faced with the opportunity to practice kindness, tolerance,
and forbearance towards each other.

As communications technology (Uranus in Pisces and Neptune in Aquarius) advances and
accelerates, our world continues to appear smaller and smaller, allowing us to communicate in
new and revolutionary ways. The energy of Pluto (survival) can help us transform our prejudices
into compassion as we strive towards wholeness and happiness. Time (Saturn) and space
(Uranus) have brought us to a point on earth (Gaia) where our survival depends on our ability to
focus on our similarities rather than our differences.
