This July and August we have two of the personal planets turning retrograde. The two personal planets we will talk about are Mercury and Venus. Mercury because it gets talked up a lot. Venus because it doesn’t. But what does retrograde mean? In this issue I will briefly explain this phenomena and how it influences us.

The retrograde cycle has three parts. The first part is when a planet stations or appears to stop and begin its retrograde motion. The second part is the retrograde movement itself, when the planet appears to be going backwards. And the third is when the planet once again starts its forward motion. First there is pause, then reflection, and then outward expression of the dynamics involved.

Three times a year Mercury turns retrograde. Each time lasts approximately three weeks. From our perspective on Earth it appears as though Mercury is moving backwards in the sky, in reverse. This is only perceptual due to each planet’s relative orbit around the sun. No planet ever truly moves backwards. When Mercury is retrograde it is an excellent time to review, reassess, and reevaluate whatever issues are at hand. Anything that has to do with communication and travel can be disrupted. This includes computers, machines, automobiles, transportation, telecommunications...anything that assists in the process of getting from point A to point B. Its a time to be careful in signing contracts and to be alert to communication misunderstandings and breakdowns. This year Mercury will be retrograde in the sign of Cancer, between June 15 and July 9.

Venus turns retrograde about every nineteen months. It usually stays retrograde about forty-two days. When Venus goes retrograde it reverses the planet’s loving and creative vibration and substitutes arguments and excess indulgence. Constructively, it can be used as a time to reflect on our relationships and how we apply our values to the various facets of our life. This year, on July 27, Venus will go retrograde in the sign of Virgo. On August 11 it will move back into Leo, where she will remain in retrograde motion through September 8.

Following are some insights of the retrograde motions for each sign. I hope you find this interesting! In this issue I will pay a little more attention to the signs of Leo and Virgo. Leo begins July 22 and ends August 23. It is followed by Virgo, which ends September 22. Enjoy! P.S. This type of astrology works for your sun sign or your rising sign if you know it.

Aries - Memories may resurface. They invite you to further investigate where you come from and where you are headed. With Mercury retrograde in your 4th house, review and reassess issues concerning your home, family and what nurtures you. Perhaps it is time for house repairs or caring for family members? Strengthen the foundations which support you.

Taurus - This is an excellent time to problem solve and reconsider all the options. It may be advantageous to write ideas on paper before implementing them. Use your famed Taurean patience to complete current tasks with grace and style. Allow your creative juices to flow on the home front. Its a great time for backyard entertaining!

Gemini - Listen carefully to your inner voice and dreams. No one else is making you do anything. Youare in charge. Consider carefully the financial consequences of home improvements or investment opportunities. Take time out for a short holiday, even if its only an excursion into a good book.

Cancer - Reassess your personal assets and natural gifts. But don’t be harsh on yourself. Feel confident in what you offer and allow magic to draw you closer to others who march to the rhythm of a different drum. Allow faith and courage act as your guides and humor to be your ally.

Leo - Make space in your life for you. It is your time to shine! You are coming to the end of a two plus year period of hard work and increased responsibilities. Communicate directly, honestly and from the heart. Do not ignore your needs or sacrifice your values. Tend to yourself in a loving and playful manner. Integrate lessons and insights into your being. With some thoughtful planning you can make
real progress towards your future dreams and goals.

Virgo - The work of wrapping up projects should still be at the top of the list. A new cycle is near, but not yet here. Cooperating with others can unleash your creativity and inspire your imagination. Use this time to revise plans for the future, and visualize the ways you can increase joy in your life. Though its not time to act there is much which can be accomplished if you are willing to move forward without
regrets. Let the past stay in the past. Continue to clean house.

Libra - The world can be your oyster so long as you maintain a sense of balance. Certain simple tasks may become complex and time consuming. Reassess your career goals and organize your time efficiently. Do not let hesitation or impetuousness get the best of you. Exercise moderation, especially with your generosity.

Scorpio - Do not let fear masked as anger get in the way of your personal relationships. Communication will be your greatest tool during this period. Use it! Reevaluate your beliefs and remember its OK to change your mind. New information sheds light on current issues.

Sagittarius - What do you hold most dear and valuable that you share with others? Is it material, spiritual, emotional? Where do adjustments need to be made? Your thoughts and words have greater power than you imagine. Speak wisely. Take the high road and honor your highest self.

Capricorn - Exciting opportunities abound in relationships. Review new partnerships carefully and do not make commitments just yet. Make sure that you, too, are willing and ready to take on new responsibilities. More will be revealed later. Be patient a bit longer. In the meantime, go play!

Aquarius - Your daily life may seem more tedious. Is it burdened by details? Seek solutions by talking with others, your colleagues or your employer. Its also an ideal time to refine your routine and put into practice good habits. Let go of unrealistic expectations and get comfy with what you have. Pisces - Visions and dreams reawaken. Your enthusiasm and inspiration is vital to their realization. Do not get discouraged by the seemingly never ending projects. Take joy in what you are doing, otherwise do something else!
