Lotus GuideJuly, August and September 2009The Moon and You!
Since ancient times, man has tracked the moon’s cycles. We have used them to plan events, such as planting crops and fertility. They have been used to time events, such as the tides and weather patterns. But are there other ways knowledge of moon cycles can be used to our benefit? From an astrologer’s perspective, the answer is yes! The phases of the moon (the Lunation Cycle) are significant. All life is influenced by this rhythm. The cycle is 29.5 days long and has eight phases. It begins at new moon, just a sliver in the sky, then continues to wax (become more visible) until the full moon, approximately fourteen days later. Then the moon starts to wane (become less visible) until she disappears entirely, to rise new once again. Learning how to apply this cycle can enhance and improve our daily life. For example, if you want to initiate a project it is best done so when the moon is waxing, or growing. Likewise with plants, they grow faster and healthier when planted in a waxing phase, especially when the moon is in fertile signs such as Cancer, Pisces, Taurus, etc. When mowing your lawn or cutting your hair try to chose times when the moon is waning (getting smaller) as things grow back more slowly during this phase. Try it! It is common sense astrology and user friendly. The relationship between the sun and the moon in the sky is important. Their dance results in the phases of the moon. Of the eight phases, here is a rundown of the four most familiar. The new moon is the best time to plant seeds, start new projects, and venture into new experience. The first quarter moon is a time best for building on what was begun during the new moon – its a time for decisive action and the exercise of one’s will. The full moon is a time of fulfillment, the culmination of projects, and illumination. The last quarter moon is a time for re-evaluation, and introspection. It’s a time for letting go, where the energy goes inward to nourish the seeds for the next cycle. Keep this in mind as you go through a month and see for yourself. Every month the moon returns to the phase in which we were born. It is a time of the month when we are most receptive. It is the beginning of our own personal lunar cycle. Being in tune with our cycle helps demystify our emotional journey for that month. Just like in the heavens, where the moon reflects the Sun’s past light, in astrology, the moon’s location and phase at the time of our birth suggests a blueprint for our history! Nature’s cycles provide us with excellent tools for time management. They are gentle reminders that we are part of, and inseparable from, a larger interactive organism. Understanding and use of the moon’s cycles provides practical, personal tools to anyone willing to learn. Aries – Invest in what you believe and value. Home improvement and financial planning is rewarding in July, followed by play time in August. Avoid risky ventures. Remember, anything too good to be true, usually is. Romance requires skilled attention for best results. Taurus – Self understanding and confidence boost you towards a new, good and updated professional vision. Polish your communication skills. They are the key to successful negotiation. Your innovative work will be rewarded soon. Keep the faith! Gemini – Who said that turning on the charm gets you nowhere? Then step out of your way. Leo – Happy Birthday, Leos! To see beauty or not is a choice we make daily. It changes the quality of our life. This August full moon will highlight the importance of seeing reality as it is. Work on accepting what is, not what you want or hope for. This is especially true in relationships. Caution aside, this can be a wonderful time of true connection with others! Virgo – Happy Birthday, Virgos! Trust your imagination and vision now. This can greatly benefit your work. Letting go of your expectations will allow for pleasant surprises. Your hard work in July will pay off in unexpected ways later this summer. Love what you do and all else will follow! Anything less will feel meaningless. Libra – Home and career are the main focus this summer. Your life is likely changing despite your preferences. The universe is inviting you to surrender to the process. Resistance is futile. Finishing up old business is in order as new doors and possibilities open up. Honest, clear and sensitive communication in relationships is crucial if you are to meet with success. Be prepared to freely give what you ask for! Capricorn – Working with others is essential this summer if you are to make desired changes. Though there may be financial uncertainty, focus your attention on the possibilities. Stay true to what you cherish. Move directly toward fear – the boogie man vanishes the closer you get. Aquarius – Action on the home front persists through July. Not to worry. There is play and recreation in store later this summer. Endeavor to finish projects already begun. Improvements in the workplace, possibly new staff, add spice to the mundane reality of daily life. Pisces – Your imagination may be working overtime. Welcome it, for it holds the seeds of your future. Forgotten truths about you percolate to the surface. Observe, don’t judge. Relationships continue to reshuffle as your priorities and commitments change.
